Online Internet Shopping

July 22, 2008

Online Internet Shopping is a great way to cash in on the special offers made by companies and stores offering a whole range of products and services. Discounts range from gift certificates, bargain sales, clearances to free shipping offers to even free product offers. Also available are last minute hotel booking deals and online reservations. People who make their ticket reservations online benefit from a discounted rate as compared to people who book their tickets the traditional way by standing in queues at ticket counters. This is a great way to benefit from discounted rates.

One can purchase almost all kinds of products, online or offline. Because of the rising competition in the consumerist market today, companies want to gain a higher market-share and they offer discounts on all sorts of products and services. Discounts, are however, usually seen on products like food items, grocery items, clothing, consumer durables like mobile phones, electrical appliances, digital cameras, MP3 players, DVD players, services like body massaging, gym memberships, club and resort memberships, face toning, weight loss, etc. Some companies offer discounts on bulk purchases.

While discounted shopping may be available in online stores, gift certificates are usually less available on the internet. Besides, these are not seen on the official homepage of the company often. It is usually an online dealer who offers a lot of discounts.

Benefits of Online Internet Shopping:

By far, one of the biggest benefits of Online Internet Shopping is, of course, the kind of savings you can make on your purchases. Discount Shopping offers you cheap, cut-off prices on even branded products and services that you would otherwise have to spend a great deal more on. It could be that otherwise expensive birthday gift, dream camera, high definition LCD TV, etc. With discount shopping, you get it at discounted prices, and there is no compromise on quality or after sales services.

Be sure to avoid scams, though. Get a clear picture of the actual price – compare the discounted rate, inclusive of the shipping price, taxes and duties, etc. against the market price. Read the fine-print very carefully. Another important thing to remember is to make sure that you read and understand the vendor’s return and money-back policies. Be sure to read these terms very carefully.

Towards the end, we’d just like to tell you that all it takes is a couple of minutes to search and you could soon be saving a lot of money, and even time, if purchasing online. Do your research and act wisely to obtain the benefits.

Do You Know How To Use Your Credit Card Online Safely?

July 22, 2008

All too often, we hear stories about the nightmares of identity theft, fraudulent credit card use, and other serious crimes of cyberspace. While it would be irresponsible to dismiss these issues completely, sometimes the problems that can come with online shopping get more attention than they really deserve. By knowing just how to use your credit card online safely, you can eliminate most of the risk factors altogether.

Using a Credit Card Online is Safe.

Think about this – when you use your credit card at a restaurant or similar offline establishment, there are a number of people who handle your card, sometimes for lengthy amounts of time. Through old fashioned pen and paper or with sophisticated magnetic reader technology, they can easily swipe the card’s details in practically no time at all.

But when you use your credit card to pay for something online, you are actually bypassing this extra person handling your sensitive information by inputting the data directly yourself. It always pays to be aware of whom you’re dealing with, but using your credit online can potentially be even safer than using it offline.

Is the Seller Reputable?

As a precaution, it is important to know just who you’re dealing with online. If you happen to be completing a transaction with a company that has a famous name you’re already familiar with, chances are you are already protected. These big companies do have a reputation to uphold and are generally expected to have higher standards while dealing with sensitive information such as your credit card account details.

But if there’s any question or you’re not completely sure who you’re dealing with, it’s time to use a few simple investigative skills. First, look for an 800 number and give it a ring to get a better feel for the legitimacy of the company. If they pass that test, consider searching for them with your favorite search engine – try typing “reviews” after their business name.

Of course, another reliable resource is always the Better Business Bureau (BBB). If there are still any doubts after your own mini investigation, then it’s best to walk away before sharing any personal information.

Make Sure the Transaction is Secure.

Part of knowing how to use your credit card online safely is making sure any personal details or information you tender are secure and encrypted. This means that your credit card number and the like are scrambled and locked as you send them and only the other party in the transaction can unlock them. Potential hackers or identity thieves that might intercept the data as you send it across the internet will only see unreadable code.

You can tell if your credit card data is secure online by looking for the little padlock icon in your web browser as soon as you get to the point where you start filling in the order information such as your name and address. It’s usually found in either the upper right hand corner or the lower right hand corner of the web browser’s window.

Try One Time Use Credit Card Numbers.

Looking for that extra level of security? If so, many credit card companies offer special one time use credit card numbers that can be safely used online. You simply log in to your account online and navigate to the one time use feature where they’ll instantly generate a credit card number that’s linked to your account but can be used only once before it is rendered useless. This assures that the credit card data shared online can exclusively be used for what you intend it to be used for and nothing else.

In conclusion, remember that using a credit card online is often safer than using it anywhere else. Knowing how to use your credit card online safely for the most part simply requires you to be aware of whom you’re dealing with. But don’t fret needlessly – credit card issuers will generally stand behind their customer if problems do arise.

How Online Shopping Will Help You Save Money

July 9, 2008

With the oil prices at $2 a liter, driving to a mall is going to be even more expensive than ever. Driving anywhere is going to be very costly.

Then there are the traffic jams which translate to more unproductive time in the car, wasting even more precious petrol.

Add to that the lack of parking space especially during peak periods where you have to circle the car park over and over again looking for a space to park. Oh, and the parking charges that would be involved.

Just getting there alone is going to cost you quite a bit.

As for the other factors like the crowds, the long queue to pay up, fighting over that last must have item with someone else who got to it at the same time. Hours going physically from place to place looking for the shop that still carries that toy your child must have for his birthday or for Christmas.

Why go through all that when you can shop without even leaving the comfort of your home?

Besides saving the petrol cost, you can compare the offerings of various stores without having to physically travel from store to store. You can get the best deals on each item you intend to buy, check the brands, see the discounts just a mouse click away.

Some online stores have web only promotions. Others offer free shipping. Yet others offer online coupons you enter into a box when you check out for additional savings. All these add up to substantial savings if you buy online. For example, if you are looking for discount in clothes, check out Best deals in Fashion Scroll down the list of offerings from reputable online fashion shops.

Another thing I love about online shopping, especially where gifts are concerned is that you can get the gifts delivered directly to the doorstep of the recipient. I’m really absent minded and tend to forget to bring gifts with me for birthdays and other occasions. What I do these days is to order the gift in advance and send it ahead of time to the birthday girl’s home. She gets a pleasant surprise when the postman delivers her the gift ahead of time. I even send Christmas gifts this way. You can send yours with a note "Do not open until 25th December." if you want yours to be opened only on Christmas day.

I buy my skincare online too. Some things I just can’t get at the neighbourhood store. Usually, the malls I frequent charge much higher prices for the same skincare product than my favourite online stores. You can find them in this Health and Beauty Product Discounts I don’t blame them. Malls have higher operating costs.. rental costs for example, which they pass down to us in the price. Online store operate on much lower overheads and their savings are usually passed down to us, the customers.

All this adds up. By shopping online, saving on petrol, saving on time (time that could be used more productively), saving through discounts.. you end up with substantial savings.
